Medicinal plants project

Reforestation of medicinal plants

Sama Yunka

Sama Yunka (Marcial, Don Pedro and team) will continue reforesting varieties of medicinal plants and trees. It has an area of 7 hectares for this, of which 5 hectares are reforested. These plants are used for treatment of different diseases, by appropriate use.
Due to deforestation in this jungle area, many medicinal plants, fruit trees and other trees were lost. Medicinal plants play a very important role in our lives and they have a healing potential. This work is ongoing since the beginning of Sama Yunka.
Until today we have 300 species of medicinal plants, fruit plants that are also used as medicine. All these plants in the area are brought from other places since deforestation affects our natural environment and many medicinal plants in our area were lost. This requires traveling for hours to another area of the jungle to acquire them.

In this article I will mention some of the best known species which are used locally and in the wider region:
One of these tree species is the humari, for example. In our camp we reforested the tree, which has now become rare. The fruits of this tree are in demand at the local market, they are also called the "mantequilla de la Selva" the butter of the rainforest.
Important plants are also Ucha Sanango, Chiric Sanango, Ajo Sacha, Mucura, Sarza, Sangre de Grado, Hierba de Corazon and Ayahuma.
We use them to purify a person on a mental and emotional level, or to raise a person's stamina.
Some of the above mentioned plants are effective also on a physical level.
A part of these plants already grow in the camp, for others we have to travel for hours or even days to obtain them.

Thanks to the generous donations of my spiritual friends in Germany and Switzerland, we have been able to maintain our project, although the severe constraints of the Coronavirus pandemic make it very difficult.

The compost used for plants is without chemicals, therefore these plants have a greater healing potential. After sowing of these plants, special care is required such as watering, verification that the plants do not lose leaves (eaten by crickets), as well as compost and continuous horticultural care.
